The method according to the invention uses a deterministic identification deconvolution of the vibrator data in order to compress the impulse response (impulse-forced response) of the data, as a result of which sharper, clearer seismic images are produced than is possible using cross-correlation methods. This method can be used instead of or in addition to cross-correlation. Furthermore, the method can also be executed both in the time range and in the frequency range. <IMAGE>
