Known containers which can be stacked and nested have longitudinal and transverse walls, which extend slightly conically inwards and downwards, and therefore have an unfavourable ratio of useful volume to container volume. In the novel container, the container volume is to be reduced and, additionally, nesting and stacking are to be possible with the lid fitted on or fitted in and without the lid. The side walls of the container are arranged perpendicular to the bottom plate. The smaller cross-sectional area required for nesting in the lower container section is implemented by a conical intermediate element. Correspondingly arranged side posts, insertion grooves and support seats allow stacking or nesting depending on the orientation of different containers. The lid is constructed by means of support springs in such a way that it can likewise be fitted onto or into the container, having been turned through 180 DEG . Nesting of a plurality of containers provided with a fitted-in lid is possible. Owing to its design which does not reduce the volume, the container is suitable for storing, apportioning and transporting purposes. <IMAGE>
