In the case of a locking mechanism for supporting legs of cushion supports (10) of sitting and lying furniture, the cushion support (10) is pivotable from a storage position, in which the supporting leg (12) mounted pivotably on it lies substantially parallel to it, through approximately 180 DEG into a user position, and the supporting leg (12), which is pivoted away from the cushion support (10) and locked, supports the cushion support (10) on the floor. To achieve high reliability against faulty operation, there is arranged on the supporting leg (12) a blocking arm (14) which has a connecting link which is provided essentially with two guiding sections (15, 16) in which a pin (17) engages. The first guiding section (15) limits the movement of the supporting leg (12) into the user position and the second guiding section (16), which adjoins the first and runs transversely thereto, runs, when the supporting leg (12) is pivoted out, vertically or at least at an acute angle to the vertical, so that the blocking arm (14) is able to pivot downwards automatically, as a result of the force of gravity, with respect to the pin (17). <IMAGE>
