An air suspension system is proposed which is provided with a lifting axle control. For operation of the lifting axle (3) individual valves (12, 13) can be operated merely by a pulse and precautions are taken in the form of one or more slide valves in combination with main valves so that the valve position attained at any one time is maintained even in the absence of current. As a result, the lifting axle (3) remains in its position attained at any one time even when the current is shut off or fails, thereby saving current. The air suspension system is preferably intended for commercial motor vehicles with three axles. <IMAGE>
