Winding machine, especially for the rolling-up or unrolling of web-like or band-like materials 1, such as paper, foils, textiles or the like, comprising rotatably mounted winding shafts 9, 9' which are drivable by motors 23, 23', preferably electric motors, movable independently of one another and which, in the case of winding-up machines, are provided, if necessary, with preferably prepared winding tubes 21, 21' which can be individually moved out of an insertion position along a guide by means of drive and can be positioned in any position along this guide, the winding shafts 9, 9' being releasable from their respective movable bearings and connections to the movable motor, at least one contact roller 4, movable essentially radially onto the winding shaft 9, 9', for bearing against the material 1 rolled up onto the winding shaft or unrolled from the latter, and, in the case of winding-up machines, a cutting and, if necessary, guiding device 10 for the initial piece of material to be rolled up onto an empty winding shaft 9, 9'.
