Device and method for reducing pollutant emissions in diesel engines, exhaust gas from a diesel engine being fed to a first liquid-filled reservoir (2), in which CO2 and soot are absorbed in the liquid at increased pressure and removed from the exhaust gas. The liquid flows out of the first reservoir (2) into a second liquid-filled reservoir (7), in which the CO2 is released from the liquid at low pressure and, mixed with fresh air, is fed back to the combustion chamber of a diesel engine.
