BIOCIDAL COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING ORGANOBORON COMPOUNDS

The invention provides a liquid biocidal or preservative composition which is enzyme free and comprises (i) as active ingredient at least one borinic, boronic, or diboronic acid, (ii) at least one surfactant, and (iii) an aqueous or organic solvent or carrier. The liquid compositions are highly effective in protecting porous substrates, particularly cellulosic substrates such as timber, from attack by fungi, bacteria or insects.
