Phthaloperinone dyes of the general formula (I) in which Z denotes SO2 or CO, A represents optionally substituted alkyl or aryl, and the other substituents have the meanings given in the description, are prepared by condensation of corresponding phthalic acids and/or functional derivatives thereof and optionally substituted 1,8-napthalenediamines. The dyes according to the invention possess very good fastness properties and are employed in processes for the mass coloration (bulk dyeing) of plastics.
