In order to produce connecting elements for the releasable connection of two profile pieces 1, 4, of which at least one exhibits an undercut longitudinal groove 2 and the other exhibits a rectangular hollow profile 5, a retaining member 8 being arranged longitudinally displaceably by a rotatable eccentric 23 in a housing 6, and it being possible for the profile pieces 1, 4 to be connected to one another and released from one another via free ends 10 which belong to the retaining member 8 and project out of the hollow profile 5 and engage into the longitudinal groove 2 of the other profile piece 1, it is proposed that the eccentric 23 have, at least in its lower region, a section 25 of a diameter which is increased with respect to the section 26 located axially in front, that the housing 6 have a bore 22 and the retaining member 8 have a bore 14 which is arranged in an offset manner to the bore 22 in the functioning position and through which the section 25 of increased diameter can be plugged, it being possible for the bores 14, 22 to be aligned coaxially with respect to one another for the axial insertion of the eccentric 23, and that an additional rotation-restricting element 27 be arranged on the eccentric 23. <IMAGE>
