The invention relates to a torsion safeguard for a valve tappet, preferably for a bucket tappet, especially a controllable bucket tappet, comprising parts movable towards one another such as the bucket and the inner tappet, the torsion safeguard being inserted in an opening of the bucket and sliding in a guideway in the cylinder head counter to the torsion of the bucket tappet. At the same time the torsion safeguard (4) is inserted from inside with play movement in the opening (1.1) of the housing or the bucket (1), the torsion safeguard having different guide lengths (4.1) inside compared to outside. The object is thereby achieved of preventing component stresses by pressing the torsion safeguard into the housing or the bucket, preventing it from falling out. <IMAGE>
