The invention relates to a tube-bundle reaction apparatus for carrying out exothermic or endothermic catalytic reactions having a bundle of tubes (2) which are provided with catalysts and are surrounded by a vessel shell (1) and having annular ducts (3a, 3b; 4a, 4b) for the radial feed or removal of a heat transport medium which is circulated by pumping via an external heat exchanger (5). In order to be able to match the reaction apparatus to different operating conditions with simple construction and the lowest possible expenditure in terms of apparatus, without a skew temperature profile in the reaction vessel being established, at least two pumps (3, 4) are provided, each of which is connected to a separate annular duct (3a, 3b or 4a, 4b) for the feed or removal of the heat transport medium.
