A power transmission belt of elastomeric material with a tensile reinforcing substrate (scrim) embedded in the elastic basic body may, if appropriate, be formed entirely or partly with fibre reinforcement. To produce a power transmission belt with high abrasion resistance and a long service life with little technical outlay, the wear-dependent movement-transmitting outer surfaces of the power transmission belt have a coating (12) which consists of a fibre-reinforced polymeric material, the fibre concentration of which is higher than in the remaining elastomeric basic body. The highly filled coating makes the use of a fabric cover superfluous. <IMAGE>
