<p>Oligopeptide antiretroviral agents are represented by formula (I) wherein A is a moiety bearing a positive charge and of a size which avoids steric inhibition of binding of said compound to nucleic acid sequences; R1 is a moiety derived from a residue of carbonic acid or a residue of a dicarboxylic acid; Het is a five membered heterocyclic moiety; x is 0 or 1; y is 0, 1, 2 or 3; z is 0, 1, 2, or 3; R2, R3, R4 and R5 are attached to a ring atom other than carbon and are independently selected from the group consisting C1-C6 alkyl and -CH2-O-R6, where R6 is a C1-C6 alkyl; or a salt thereof. These compounds exhibit antiretroviral activity, especially against HIV. These compounds are also useful against Hepatitis B.</p> |
