The invention is used to remove two-part or multi-part security tags (1) for articles of clothing or the like, which are releasable only by mechanical deformation of at least one of the parts. For this purpose, the device has a receiving slot (6), arranged in a housing, for the security tag (1), further at least two bolts (8) arranged mutually spaced on the bottom (7) of the receiving slot, each guided in a bore and movable axially into the receiving slot (6), as well as two abutments (9) arranged between the bolts (8) and each facing the opposite side wall. Further, there is provided an ejecting member (10) which is guided displaceably in the longitudinal direction of the receiving slot (6), engages on the part of the security tag (1) which is inserted into the receiving slot (6) and, upon insertion of the security tag (1), is moved counter to a resilient spring member which restores it into its position of rest. To receive that part of the security tag (1) which is expelled from the receiving slot (6) upon the return of the ejecting member (10) to the position of rest, provision is made for a collecting container arranged beneath an opening (11) adjoining the receiving slot (6). <IMAGE>
