Devices are needed for data processing which have a relatively short data access time despite a very high data storage capacity. large quantities of data can be economically stored on magnetic tape, but the access times are relatively long, thus preventing effective work. Short access times are provided by a hard disc, which is often used in computers, but its storage capacity is substantially smaller than that of a magnetic tape. The description relates to a data processing device combining a magnetic tape drive with an 8 mm wide tape and a disc drive with one or more hard discs. This economically provides a data storage device with a large data storage capacity and short access time. |
