For a controlled outflow operation of an abruptly opening valve, such as is used, in particular, for air bag systems, a valve arrangement is known, in which a pyrotechnically driven piston rod bears a flow-conducting control body on its end face facing the joint, on which control body a sealing disc provided with an intended breaking zone is also formed. The new valve arrangement provides a pressure pin (1) for piercing a sealing disc (8) which contains a breaking region (9) which is defined by an intended breaking zone (10) and is provided with one or more essentially axially extending outflow channels (6) which open out at its end face (11) acting upon the breaking region (9) and whose axial length is greater than the thickness of the sealing disc. The outflow characteristic can be influenced reproducibly with this valve arrangement. The valve arrangement can be used, in particular, for a passenger air bag system of a motor vehicle. <IMAGE>
