A spinning mill installation having a process control computer (340) for at least one machine group, each machine of the group being provided with its own control unit (390) which controls the actuating mechanism (A) of the machine (including all the auxiliary units associated with this machine). At least one network (350) is provided for the bidirectional communication between the computer (340) and each machine of the group. Control commands from the process control computer (340), during operation of the installation, are passed to the machine control units (390) via the network (350). Each machine control unit (390) forwards the control commands to the actuating mechanism (A) controlled by this control unit, the control commands, if necessary, being converted by the machine control unit (390) into control signals which are suitable for the actuating mechanism (A). <IMAGE>
