Method of fabricating a travelling-wave tube delay line.

For amplification and output power independent of frequency over several octaves, the travelling-wave tube is constructed with a helix (9) fixed and adjusted by means of retaining rods (8) within an assembly of three paraxial loading bars (4) on the internal surface of the conductive cylinder (5), leaving a precisely defined gap (12) between the bars (4) and helix (9). The bars (4) are mfd. in one piece with the cylinder (5) and shaped by wire spark machining to the desired cross-section. The spacers (1) and pole pieces (2) are strung on a thick-walled nonmagnetic tube (3) and soldered together.
