PURPOSE:To provide a character input device reducing the number of times of specifying an input mode by a user as much as possible. CONSTITUTION:A key code inputted from an input device 601 is converted into a character code in a key code conversion part 602, the propriety of conversion to the character code is checked and a Roman alphabet correction request signal 608 is outputted to a Roman alphabet correction conversion part 609 when the conversion to the character code is impossible. In the Roman alphabet correction conversion part, the key code is received from the input device 601 in synchronisn with the key code conversion part, whether or not the key codes before and after the key code for which the conversion is impossible are to be converted into Roman alphabets is decided by using a Roman alphabet change check table and a comparator part in an inside and a key code string is converted into a character code string corresponding to the result and outputted to a display device 603. Thus, the number of times of changing the setting of a character mode can be reduced and character input efficiency is improved. |
