PURPOSE:To simplify circuit constitution by connecting terminal electrodes in pairs to an electrode wire through a resistor, and emitting light from phosphor by ultraviolet radiation generated by discharge of rare gas. CONSTITUTION:Two terminal electrodes 7 are connected in common as a pair in the scanning direction, and a common connecting part is connected to an anode bus bar 4 through a resistor 8a. Since this resistor 8a is connected to a far side anode bus bar 4, when a length is made long, resistance can be increased. In this way, when constitution is set in such a way that the terminal electrodes 7 are connected to the anode bus bar 4 by holding a single resistor 8a in common in pairs by the terminal electrodes 7 adjacent to each other in the scanning direction, the area possessed by the resistor 8a is reduced, and high density is realized. When being arranged in this way, since interlaced scanning becomes possible, phosphor can emit light by ultraviolet radiation generated by discharge of rare gas by a simple circuit.
