PURPOSE:To make right color display possible with the liquid crystal display device without using color filters. CONSTITUTION:The light emitted through a polarizer 15, a first optical phase compensating member 13, a second optical phase compensating member 14 and a liquid crystal layer 17 is made to elliptically polarized light which exhibits a specific color. The hue of the exit light is controlled by adjusting the electric field to be impressed to the liquid crystal layer 17 at this time and, therefore, >=2 kinds of the hues of the exit light are formed to meet picture elements, by which the multicolor display is made even if the color filters are not used. |
