In a tractor in which a swivel connection with a vertical axis is connected to the body structure or the wheel axle, which allows the axles of the tractor or the machine to be turned in relation to one another, stability problems occur when the tractor or the machine is running in uneven terrain. If the tractor also has a working implement, such as a loading device or an excavating machine, a moment of a force is generated, especially where the working implement bears a load, which seeks to tip the tractor over when the wheels are turned to one side when steering. To improve the stability of the tractor or the machine a clamping or locking part 10, 11 is used, which is mounted on the body 2 of the tractor and which counteracts the swivelling of the swivel connection when the wheel of the tractor is turned to one side when steering. The device is preferably mounted on a body-steered tractor. In one embodiment two hydraulic clamping or locking cylinders 12, 14, which are hydraulically connected to the lifting cylinders 19, 20 of the loading device 23, are connected to the swing axle of the tractor wheels. A distributing valve 22, which is connected between the cylinders and which is controlled by the body steering connection 4, controls the action of the clamping or locking cylinders in such a way that the clamping or locking cylinder counteracts the lifting of the end of the swing axle in the direction of which the tractor is steered by the steering linkage. <IMAGE>
