A glazing assembly is described, suitable for use as an emergency escap e, comprising a laminated panel having at least two sheets (10, 12) of vitreous material adhered to a polymeric intervening layer (14) which extends continuously between said sheets (10, 12). In at least one minor area zone o f the panel, the possibility of elongation of the intervening layer (14) under the influence of mechanical stress when said at least two sheets (10, 12) of vitreous material are broken, is different compared with the possibility of elongatio n of said intervening layer (14) over the rest of the panel. The assembly may be used in vehicles, such as in high-speed train carriages. When there is a need to break through the panel for emergency escape purposes, the panel is subjected to a suitable mechanical force, the intervening material (14) is more easily torn or cut away, thereby enabling faster escape. The invention thereby enables easy escape through a window space while maintaining the security performance of the assembly at a satisfactory level. |
