PURPOSE:To keep safe a relative relation with an inter-vehicle distance in front by providing a means detecting the various kinds of running environmental parameters of a vehicle, and letting the aforesaid means correct a target inter-vehicle distance or acceleration/deceleration in response to the running environmental parameters in the device furnished with a function controlling an inter-vehicle distance. CONSTITUTION:When a vehicle is running, if a target inter-vehicle distance is larger than an actual inter-vehicle distance, a controller 6 determines a rate of change in vehicle speed based on the difference between the target and the actual inter-vehicle distances, and if the aforesaid objective inter-vehicle distance is smaller than the actual inter-vehicle distance, a rate of change in vehicle speed is determined based on the difference between a target vehicle speed and an actual vehicle speed, so that a vehicle speed control means is thus controlled. In the speed control means as mentioned above, the device is equipped with a means 10a detecting the amount R of rainfall, a lighting detection means 10b detecting if a lighting lamp for a vehicle is lit, an inter-vehicle distance detecting means 10c, and with a wind capacity detection means 10d. And when it is required that the vehicle has to be accelerated, for example when it rains, or when the vehicle lighting lamp is lit, acceleration is corrected in response to the quantity of traffic congestion and the amount of following wind (the amount of against wind). By this constitution, the inter-vehicle distance can thereby be kept proper at all times. |
