<p>PURPOSE:To facilitate the work of connecting pipes together by providing a saddle member which is freely fitted to and removed from the neck of a socket at a pipe end portion and a connection means which is driven and contracted to close a clamp lever to press a working end into contact with the outer peripheral surface of a spigot. CONSTITUTION:To connect a new pipe 4 to an existing pipe 3, the spigot 6 of the new pipe 4 hoisted by a crane and the like is disposed coaxial with the socket 5 of the existing pipe 3. A saddle member 7, a spigot holding member 8 and a connecting cylinder unit 9 are hoisted from the ground and the saddle member 7 is fitted to the neck 5a of the socket 5 and the spigot holding member 8 is fitted around the outer peripheral portion of the spigot 6. Next, the cylinder unit 9 is contracted and links arms 15c, 15d are rotated in C direction to close a clamp lever so as to secure the spigot holding member 8 to the outer peripheral portion of the spigot 6. Under these conditions, the cylinder unit 9 is further contracted to move the new pipe 4 toward the existing pipe 3 to insert the spigot 6 into the socket 5, thus completing connection of the pipes 3, 4.</p> |
