The invention relates to a machine frame and a method of fabricating it, in particular for printing-machine units, with side walls firmly connected by crosspieces. In order to reduce the cost of fabricating the machine frame, the side walls consist of steel plates which are formed without chip removal and are welded to the crosspieces to form the machine frame, which has functional surfaces designed to permit fabrication by the welding in one set-up of the machine frame while utilising its bearing surfaces and is supported via adjusting elements guaranteeing operationally correct alignment of the machine frame having the functional surfaces or mounted functional elements connected to the latter. <IMAGE>
