The invention relates to a seal (21) for limiting a pressure zone (22) at a pressure plate (10) for a vane pump. The pressure plate (10) is pressed against a pump pack (6, 7, 8) by the operating pressure and is axially movable within a gap width "S". According to the invention, the seal (21) is formed in a U-shape so that two sealing lips (24, 24A) are obtained. The seal (21) is fitted into the pump in such a way that the pressure oil can be admitted to the rounded-off end face from a pressure space (20). The sealing lips (24, 24A) and a web (25) therefore bear reliably against the walls of the groove and against a wall of a cap (23) defining the gap. <IMAGE>
