TAMPON, PROCESS AND DEVICE FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

A hygienic tampon (T) for women is made from a blank made by winding a strip-shaped nonwoven section and pressed into a preform having a core with a more densely compacted fibrous material and less densely compacted longitudinal ribs that surround the core. The finished tampon (T) is shaped by applying radial pressure on the longitudinal ribs. Also disclosed is a process and device for producing such a tampon (T). In order to increase its aborbing power while maintaining its resistance to bending, the core is made of a highly compacted area (Kr) having a ring-shaped cross-section and of a medium compacted central area (Kz) located within the ring-shaped area (Kr).
