A printing machine comprises a series of printing units each provided with a generally vertical support to support a flexographic printing plate, enabling the lower end of the plate to be fixed to a roller which can be turned through one revolution to wind the plate about the roller, the upper edge of the plate being released on completion of the revolution. Plate removal is effected by the reversal of this procedure. Blanks are fed through the machine by a chain and gripper system using endless chains having one run located substantially in the feed plane, and the rollers are grooved and recessed to accommodate the grippers as they pass through the roll nips.
