A modified conjugated diene polymer which is obtained by preparing a conjugated diene polymer in an organic solvent in the presence of a lanthanoid rare earth metal compound as the catalyst and modifying the terminal group(s) thereof with an N-substituted amino active compound and which is monomodol and has an Mw to Mn ratio of 1.3 to 5, a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of 100,000 to 1,000,000 and a terminal modification rate of 50 % or above. The production process comprises the step (1) of conducting polymerization in the presence of a catalyst comprising either a combination of a reaction product (i), prepared by reacting a lanthanoid rare earth metal compound with an organo-aluminum hydride and then with a Lewis base, and a halogen compound (ii), or a reaction product of components (i) and (ii) wherein a part of a conjugated diene monomer is reacted before the reaction of component (ii), and the step (2) of modifying the terminal group(s) of the obtained living polymer with the above compound.
|
