Known processes for producing cover units and cover units produced by the said process have in common that they need complex precautions for carrying out the process, producing the cover unit in one operation. These precautions are required in order to avoid deformations of the edge-gap sealing profile due to polymer flowing in. The novel process is intended to make these precautions superfluous and permit the production of a novel cover unit with a tolerance-compensating, exchangeable edge-gap sealing profile. In order to carry out the novel process for producing the novel cover unit, precautions for positioning and arresting the edge-gap sealing profile with a form fit are provided on the mould and on the edge-gap sealing profile. These precautions are provided on the edge-gap sealing profile in such a way that they are plastically deformable and consequently tolerances between cover unit and vehicle roof opening can be compensated. Production of a cover unit for vehicle roofs with a tolerance-compensating exchangeable edge-gap sealing profile in one operation.
