A data processing device is proposed, which is improved in its operational capabilities and is able to store a plurality of recording media in disc form. This device includes a detection function for sensing an empty compartment (empty compartments) of a store comprising a plurality of compartments (50a-50d) which can be distinguished by identification numbers and are loaded with a plurality of MDs. The device is further provided with the following three functions. A setting function selects an empty compartment and sets it as a determined compartment in which a disc is to be deposited. In response to the pressing of a numerical key for the purpose of setting an empty compartment as a newly determined compartment, a resetting function sets the determined empty compartment from the compartment set by the setting function to the newly determined compartment. When the insertion of an MD through an insertion slot is sensed, a transmission function transmits a control signal, in order that the MD can be deposited in the newly determined compartment.
