Process for the esterification of carboxylic acid salts

A process for the direct esterification of carboxylic acid salts is characterised in that a) the appropriate carboxylic acid salt is reacted with an activator to give an intermediate active ester and b) this activator is reacted with a hydroxy compound to give the ester. The process according to the invention makes possible the direct esterification of carboxylic acid salts without intermediate liberation of the acid and as a result is also particularly suitable for the esterification of acid-sensitive compounds.
