A process for the production of an anti-reflection coating, where the process comprises the following steps: - application of a first coating composition containing an alcoholic solution of a silicon alkoxide, a metal alkoxide [M(OR)x, where M is a metal and R is an alkyl radical], an acid and water to the outer surface of a plate in order to form a first layer; - application of a second coating composition containing an alcoholic solution of a silicon alkoxide, a metal salt, an acid and water to the first layer in order to form a second layer, and - heating the resultant two layers applied to the outer surface of a plate. <IMAGE>
