PURPOSE:To prevent the delamination of an activated alumina layer from a metal carrier base material, by enhancing the bonding strength of the activated alumina layer formed to the surface of the metal monolithic catalyst carrier base material and the metal carrier base material. CONSTITUTION:The composition of a catalyst carrier base material consists of 5-30% Cr, 1-10% Al, 0.01-0.5% of one or more of K etc. and the remainder Fe on a wt. basis. Because the ion radius of K or the like is larger than that of Al, K or the like is incorporated between lattices of activated alumina such as gamma, delta or theta-alumina having a large gap and the crystal structure thereof is stabilized. Therefore, when an alumina film is formed to the surface of the carrier base material by the heat-treatment of said base material, the transformation of activated carbon to alpha-alumina is suppressed and the precipitation of alpha-alumina is prevented. If a lanthanide element is added in an amount of 0.01-0.5wt%, perovskite type composite oxide is formed and purifying capacity is enhanced. |
