Pharmaceutical compsns. for percutaneous admin. contains an active ingredient (I) that penetrates the skin, in the form of microemulsions with excipients compatible with the skin. - The active ingredient (I) may be topical in its effects, such as anti-acne or anti-fungal agent, or it may have its effects after penetration through the skin such as anti-histamines, myotonolytics, antidepressants, and tranquillisers. By making a microemulsion, active ingredients that usually only pass through the skin with difficulty can be successfully given by this route. Admin. is prolonged, it being possible to build up a store of material which passes slowly into the circulatory system over about three days. |
