Radio communication apparatus which can be tested by radio optical test signals

A radio communication apparatus (21) is tested by a radio test signal which carries a test digital data signal. The apparatus has a radio processing section (24, 25) for processing the radio test signal into the test digital data signal. A data processing section (28, 29) processes an input data signal into a processed data signal. Responsive to the processed data signal, an announcing section (30, 31) announces generation of the processed data signal. The announcing section can be selectively inhibited via electronic switches (64, 65) by optical control signals transmitted from the radio test signal transmitter and received at photoelectric converter (32). An optical test signal may also be used to provide the test digital data signal.
