The present invention relates to a process and an apparatus for folding thermoplastic sheets. This apparatus is particularly useful in assessing the suitability of thermoplastic sheets for folding and, more especially, that of impact polystyrene. This device includes three supports (2, 3, 4) which are substantially parallel to one another and which can stress a thermoplastic sheet (1) placed substantially perpendicular to them. The sheet is folded by means of the movement of the supports during which one of the supports (2) passes between the two others (3, 4). When folding is complete, the thermoplastic sheet appears folded in four.
