PURPOSE:To obtain a display device which is stabilized in display by suppressing the distortion of a driving waveform and a display device which is improved in display quality by suppressing the movement of liquid crystal molecules by shading at least one of pixels on matrix electrodes from light. CONSTITUTION:A display part 101 consisting of a scanning electrode 201 and an information electrode 202 is provided with a light-shaded part (pixel 203. When an image is displayed, four pixels are made to correspond to one piece of information. For example, when a pixel A used for the display is placed in a bright state, pixels B and C which are shadded from light are placed in a dark state and a pixel D which is shaded from light is placed in a bright state. Then without depending on a display pattern displayed with light-unshaded pixels used for the display, a checkered pattern or nearly checkered pattern is seen on the matrix electrodes. When the bright state and dark state are alternated at every dot on scanning electrodes, the distortion of the driving waveform is suppressed. For the purpose, the display state of pixels at the light-shaded part 203 is adjusted so that the bright state and dark state are both present on each scanning electrode 201, thereby suppressing the distortion of the driving waveform. |
