<p>PURPOSE:To suppress the increase in power consumption at a battery-driven mobile terminal equipment by preventing the increase in the estimated rate through only Viterbi decoding of the rate after the estimation of the rate because the rate is estimated by utilizing a characteristic of data being its repetition. CONSTITUTION:Data are received for each frame and the received data are sectioned by each of maximum repetition number+1, and positive data number and negative data number included in the sectioned data are counted by respective counters 11, 12. The maximum repetition number is 3 when the information rate is used for B, B/2, B/2<2>. Then an absolute value of the difference is obtained from the counts of the counters 11, 12. Then a hard judging decoding is defined to be 1 for the positive polarity and 0 for the negative polarity and the positive positve is defined as a positive value and the negative value is defined by a negative value in the soft discrimination decoding. Since the difference of absolute value is calculated for each of data of maximum repetition number+1, the average value is obtained by a circuit 14. The rate is discriminated by a rate decision device 15 and the data are subjected to Viterbi decoding at a Viterbi decoder 16.</p> |
