PRODUCTION OF WAVEGUIDE TYPE OPTICAL AMPLIFIER

摘要

PURPOSE:To provide a process for production of the waveguide type optical amplifier having excellent amplification characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A glass particulate layer 2 contg. SiO2 is deposited on a substrate 1 and a phosphoric acid contg. at least one kind of rare earth elements or a soln. of this phosphoric acid is penetrated into this glass particulate layer 2 or the glass particulate layer 2 increased in bulk density by half sintering and thereafter, the glass particulate layer is subjected to a high-temp. heat treatment and is thereby vitrified to transparent glass, by which the optical waveguide having a layer 6 doped with P at a high concn. as a propagation region of light is formed.
