RADIOACTIVE SURFACE CONTAMINATION DETECTOR

PURPOSE:To enhance the sensitivity of a radioactive surface contamination detector by enlarging the area thereof. CONSTITUTION:The detecting section 10 includes a fiber array 16 comprising a large number of scintillator fibers 14 arranged flatly. The light generated in each scintillator fiber 14 passes through a coupling part 13 and arrives at the light receiving surface of a photomultiplier tube housed in a handle section 12. This constitution enhances the detection sensitivity because no light guide is required and the area of the detector can be increased by enlarging the fiber array 16.
