PURPOSE:To display characters of high quality without generating any flicker at a border part between the image and a character when characters are superimposed on the image which is encoded and compressed with high efficiency. CONSTITUTION:Display control data D0-D7 representing display pixels at the mixture ratio of a video image pixel signal and a character pixel signal are recorded on a CD 1 together with video image data, signal level data of video image data DV read out of the CD 1 and reference level data DM and DF of characters and green outputted from a character color control part 5 are converted in level by multipliers 8, 9, and 10 corresponding to the mixture ratio, and the data after the conversion are added by an adder 11 to obtain composite data DG for display. The luminance and color of an outline part are smoothly varied by varying the mixture ratio of pixels corresponding to the outline part of the character in stages to display the character of high quality while the notch is made inconspicuous. |
