PURPOSE:To enable a rubber pad to be easily projected or retracted from the grouser edges of a crawler plate in response to load conditions by arranging a fitting depth adjusting member for the rubber pad between the recessed bottom part of a steel crawler plate and the rubber pad. CONSTITUTION:In the interior of a crawler plate 1 constituting a crawler belt 2 (not shown) which is fitted on a caterpillar vehicle, a pad fitting 3' supported by coils 5 made of a shape-memory alloy and a rubber pad 3 are arranged. When the vehicle travels on an off-street area, the coils 5 are maintained in a contracted state, and the rubber pad 3 is maintained in a position being recessed farther inside the crawler plate 1 than the edges of grousers 6. As a result, the edges of grousers 6 bite into the ground, and the same traveling performance as that in the ordinary steel crawler belt can be developed. Next, when the vehicle travels on a paved area or the like, the exhaust gas of the vehicle, after properly cooled, is blown on the crawler plate 1 by means of a piping or the like to cause the coils 5 to be subjected to martensite transformation so as to be extended, so that the rubber pad 3 is projected outward from the edges of the grousers 6 to bring it into contact with the road surface, thereby the performance for a road surface can be improved.
