PURPOSE:To cope with a diversity of power source usage by providing plural external power source terminals corresponding to mutually different input voltages. CONSTITUTION:An electronic circuit part 8 in an encoder 19 is provided with a voltage regulator 18 as a voltage converting means. Then power source input parts 8a and 8aA and an external power source terminal 16a are connected to the regulator 18. Further, the input parts 8a and 8aA and external power source terminals 16b and 16c are connected in series. Then a power source input circuit 17 consists of the input parts 8a and 8aA, terminals 16a-16c, and a power supply line 14, and when an input voltage within a voltage range of 5-15V is handled between the terminal 16a and input parts 8 and 8aA, the regulator 18 which is connected in series serves as the voltage converting means for supplying an output voltage of 5V to the input part 8a. Here, when the encoder 19 is attached to a machine tool, etc., the use of the terminals 16a and 16b enables a power source which generates an optional voltage of 5-15V to be used and the use of the terminals 16a and 16b enables a power source of 5V to be connected directly, so that terminals can be selected according to a diversity of the source voltage of equipment.
