PURPOSE:To improve a display response and to reduce the traffic volume of a communication line by effectively utilizing a terminal side file with restricted capacity. CONSTITUTION:Files 23, 24 in a terminal 2-1 store picture objects and their index information transmitted from a host computer 1. In the case of displaying a picture, a control means 200 retrieves whether index information including the picture identifier (ID) of the picture exists in the file 24 or not, and when the information exists, reads out its corresponding picture object from the file 23, displays the picture on a display device 21 and updates using frequency managing information included in the index information. When the information does not exist, the means 200 requests the transmission of the picture object with the picture ID to the computer 1, stores the received picture object and index information respectively in the files 23, 24 and displays the picture in accordance with the picture object. A deleting means 201 deletes a picture object which has not been recently used from the file 23 based upon the using frequency managing information. |
