PURPOSE:To realize a photovoltaic element which is simple in structure and high in photoelectric conversion efficiency by a method wherein a first conductor which serves to primarily absorb light, an insulator which contains oxide or nitride, and a second conductor are successively laminated on a board in this sequence facing an incident light for the formation of the photovoltaic element. CONSTITUTION:A photovoltaic element is provided with a glass board 12, and a nickel thin film conductor 14, a silicon carbide thin film conductor 16, and an Al thin film conductor 18 are successively laminated on the glass board 12. Incident light is made to impinge arm the glass board 12, and a photoelectromotive force is outputted through terminals 20 and 22 formed on the thin film conductors 18 and 14. Incident light is absorbed into the thin film conductor 14 to excite electrons, and electrons are moved to the thin film conductor 18 by a momentum given by light, an electrical field generated inside the silicon carbide thin film conductor 16, or a tunnel effect or the like. A conductor higher in conductivity than a semiconductor is used as a light absorbing layer, whereby a transparent electrode or a collecting electrode usually provided to a light incidence side can be dispensed with, and thus a photovoltaic element simple in structure and high in photoelectric conversion efficiency can be obtained. |
