<p>PURPOSE:To decrease the frequency of key operation and improve the operability by extracting main text data which is being retrieved from dictionary information while referring to menu items of the lowest level when retrieval in menu form having hierarchical structure is performed. CONSTITUTION:A ROM 23 stores a control program and a retrieval program and a CPU 21 makes logical judgement and performs logical operations. When the retrieval in menu form having hierarchical structure is performed, address information of a menu of lower level below an item where a cursor is currently present is taken out with a lowest-order level key, and it is judged whether or not the next layer is a menu or a main text. When the next layer is the menu, menu data at the head of the level is taken out and tracing-back operation is performed one after another until the main text is reached; when the main text is reached, a menu item list screen of the lowest level is displayed on a display device 26. Then while the menu items of the lowest level are referred to, the main text data being retrieved are extracted from the electronic dictionary information.</p> |
