PURPOSE:To obtain accurate range finding information even when a luminance pattern is found in a range finding object or the object is exposed to only one part of projected light. CONSTITUTION:This range finder is provided with a position discriminating means 7 for obtaining the position of a projected light image on a light receiving means 1 by using the values of the peak, the center and the center of gravity of an image signal, the positions of the peak, the center and the center of gravity of the image signal, and the specified rate position of the image signal, and the position of the projected light image on the light receiving means is obtained based on the values of the peak, the center and the center of gravity of the image signal (waveheight value), the positions of them (incident position on a light receiving surface) and the specified rate position of the image signal (waveheight value such as 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4). |
