PURPOSE: To provide a method for automatically preparing the summary of a document. CONSTITUTION: This method automatically prepares the summary by selecting the area of the document. Each selected area includes at least two members of a seed list. The seed list is generated from a prescribed number of complicated expressions which are not included on a stop list and appear most frequently within the document. When the summary is too long, an area selecting processing is executed with respect to the summary and a shorter summary is generated. This area selecting processing is repeated until a summary of a desired length is generated. Whenever the area selecting processing is repeated, the member of the seed list is added and a complexity level used for identifying frequently appearing expressions is reduced. |
